About Babu Karki

I am Babu Karki, the owner and tour operator of Everest Trekking and Expedition Company. I have been working in Nepal’s tourism industry since 1992, with more than three decades of professional experience in Himalayan trekking, tourism, and community development.

I was born and raised in the remote area of Fulkharka, Dhading, Nepal. After completing my school education there, I began my career in tourism as a trekking porter. I worked as a porter for about two years, gaining firsthand experience of the challenges faced by trekking staff and the realities of working in the Himalayan mountains.

With dedication and experience, I progressed to become a licensed trekking guide, working in the field for around 12 years. During this time, I gained extensive knowledge of Nepal’s trekking routes, Himalayan culture, mountain environments, and the needs of international travelers. My years of working in the mountains inspired me to establish my own trekking business, Everest Trekking and Expedition Company.

Beyond tourism, I have always believed that businesses should contribute to the communities where they operate. I allocate around 5% of my income to social and community activities. Over the years, I have been involved in community development, environmental protection, porter welfare, and children’s welfare initiatives.

I am also a board member of the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP), where I have contributed to programs focused on environmental conservation, responsible tourism, community development, and improving the welfare of people working in the tourism sector.

My journey—from a young porter from rural Dhading to a trekking guide and tourism entrepreneur—has given me a deep understanding of Nepal’s mountains, people, culture, and tourism industry. I remain committed to promoting responsible, sustainable, and community-focused tourism in Nepal while providing travelers with safe, meaningful, and memorable Himalayan experiences.
